Oak Valley Farm was founded in 1953 by Julie Price. She started out with two ponies, Abu (who still lives at the farm) and Bourbon. Julie saved Abu from his abusive owners, and Bourbon was a 'starter pony'. Abu was Julie's first rescue, but certainly not her last! She acquired Starsky soon after, who was a racehorse, then a dressage trainer who was going to be thrown away because of his big feet. Next came Chopin, another race horse, who was going to be euthanized because he had a bowed tendon from racing so much and his owners did not feel like saving him. Soon after him was Argentina, a beautiful Paint horse and Thoroughbred cross who was a Polo pony. She had a bad case of Navicular Arthritis and would limp after every round of polo. Her owners called Julie on a Monday and said that Argentina woul be euthanized that Friday, and Julie was able to save her. Lastly came Charlie. Another racehorse, Charlie was horribly abused by his owner, who would smack him and punch him. When Charlie fractured his ankle bone in a race, his owners waned to race him another time so that he could be thoroughly destroyed, but thankfully Julie saved him. Julie Price is very compassionate towards all animals, which is our philosophy here at her farm!
